Note: Bernice Hawker married Claude Hector Olson on 17 May 1927 at St Mark's Church, Carterton. Her husband Claude was assistant master at Carterton High School. He had returned to the school in the evening to carry out chemistry experiments. It appears he accidentally drank what he thought was water but was actually a poison. He was found dead the following morning, 8 March 1929.  The inquest concluded he had mistakenly drunk poison.
